Play Off season has finally began and that means it is time for ChilliPepper, Dad and I to continue our Play off Routine of eating. Thinking Down town was probably already packed, we decided to head to Boston Pizza. Plus, since I was getting "free" food...how could I refuse?
Boston Pizza Bread
I should have ordered something else, but ChilliPepper is picky so we decided to go with this. By no means did it look like the Pizza Bread in the picture. It looked and tasted fried and dry rather than baked and soft. I thought it actually tasted like onion pancakes (蔥油餅)? This was just pretty generic and bland.
Smoky Mountain Spaghetti and Meatballs-$17.29
ChilliPepper hates cheese and does not eat seafood or dairy, and opted for her usual.There was too much pasta and too little sauce. Just the usual chain-food taste and nothing out of the ordinary with the same thing going for the meatballs. There was too little sauce and my Dad ended up having to ask for more sauce on the side...which we later found out costed an extra $1.99. Seriously? There was just such a small dish of sauce...we probably would have needed 2-3 for it to satisfy us. I thought this was too overpriced.
Jambalaya Fettuccine-$16.79
I like spicy and my dad does not like dairy, so we chose this. I think my dad thought the picture looked pretty good so he chose this. Again, the picture did not match the food. I was not expecting it too but the difference was a bit much. The whole dish was dry, tasteless and bland. The portion was also much smaller than the Spaghetti and only 50 cents different. We needed to add the sauce from the Spaghetti to it. The sausage had no color, grey and salty. My favourite part was the garlic bread.
I had a coupon for a free pasta since it was my birthday, therefore the Jambalaya Fettucine was "free."
The service was the worst I had at Boston Pizza. It was very busy but I did expect some level of "cheery-ness" instead of a "what do you want?" attitude.

I had the spaghetti and meatballs about 10 years ago, I thought the meatballs tasted like frozen meatballs from super store and the sauce was like chef boyardee... and that was a signature dish of theirs. I've only been back to BP twice since that day.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to BP in YEARS. I really don't recall things being that expensive. Of course, I never had to pay for those meals when I was a child so I don't remember. hahaha

Wow, prices have gone up, $17.29 for Spaghetti and Meatballs? That's getting up there....even pricier than Anton's and even Italian Tomato. As Buddha Boy says, Chef Boyardee tastes pretty much the same but for the discounted price of 89 cents a can!
Haha, sorry, I don't been to gripe on your blog, but I loathe Boston Pizza and it's very existence. I think the entire chain should be shut down and the board of directors be charged with crimes against humanity.

ReplyDelete@Janice:My parents hardly took me to Western restaurants as a child, the only reason I remember going to these kinds of places were my free crayons I would bring home..I still have some haha!
@Peter: I just read your post and the food looks crap! You have such hate towards BP! I think they were "good" 5-10 years ago when there was little variety and family friendly places, plus I bet it was much more reasonable. These days, they are going down, the hockey games are probably the only time they are busy.
I went a few months back and had the worst yam fries...they were slivers (literally) and black. So bad I had to return only to get the same shitty fries again...I was too shy to ask for a refund =="...but then again, I got that free & a pasta free that time.

ReplyDeleteHaha, you're right, maybe they were ok about a decade back, when they were still that "family style" restaurant, but their prices have inflated to mid to high-end dining without the quality or the service. The servers are of the same mold as say Swiss Chalet (which isn't saying much), mostly highschool or college students. They are definitely not of the same calibre as the professionals we see at The Keg, or say Earl's.
Sucks about those yam fries, sounds gross. My friend Jay made the mistake of ordering a steak there once. There were about 10 of us there, he got his meal last and it was well done when he asked for rare.
I really can't think of a reason why I'd ever go back. If I did, I wouldn't be able to ask the question "what's good here?". The only thing I could ask the server is "what's not shitty?" and as a result, I'd get all sorts of spit in my food. I've seen "Waiting", haha, I know what it's all about.
Haha, I guess people could say, why so angry? Why not just not there? I guess I still feel ripped off for getting an 89 cent can of Chef Boyardee with Tex Mex Cheese and having it passed off as a $17 plate of gourmet 7 Cheese Ravioli.

Reading the comments above makes me think Jim Treliving is spending way to much time on Dragon Den's projects and not on BP. haha
ReplyDelete@Peter: chain restaurants are just going downhill these days. BP business is getting worse, if you go on Tuesday(?) it's $10 all pastas, which is not that bad really.
