Verdict
B
Blowfish Sushi is a in the same strip as the good ol' Tom & Jerry's and Gourmet Castle. Their sushi is better than the usual sushi joints around that serve cheap bento's and the variety is quite large for such a tiny establishment.
This place is popular with the locals, and visitors coming to events at the PNE and Pacific Coliseum. For some, it's a "healthy alternative" from greasy Chinese food next door and steaks at Tom & Jerry's.
Blow Fish has the menu options you would expect from the average Japanese restaurants with some specials. They have a brown rice option as well. I find some of their items a few dollars more than other places though~
The only thing I order from Blowfish is their Yam Fries.
Their Yam Tempura ($3.75) is delicious. Cooked just right with enough batter, generous portion,crunchy...I can't stop eating them. They are veggies= healthy :)
I'm not sure if this always happens but their yam fries are made to order. They chop the yams up and fry them per batch, ensuring I get crunchy, and fresh yams each time. I like how they're cut like fries vs big slices making them easier to eat and dip.
The flavor of their dip is inconsistent but it's supposedly a spicy mayo dip. It's ok, sometimes better but nothing terrible.
If you're ever in the nearby and craving yam fries, I recommend giving this place a try!
