Ramen Jinya was featured in the L.A Weekly as a "Must Eat Before You Die" and it seemed pretty promising for a yummy bowl of ramen!

I had wanted to go try it out for quite some than time as the weather has become chilly and there's nothing better than a hot bowl of noodle soup!
The Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen was very disappointing. It was served in a large, deep bowl and had a good presentation. Taste wise, it was bad.
The first couple sips were alright-a little spicy and meaty broth. However, it started to taste greasy, gritty and sand-ish from then on.
The noodles were under cooked and were much thicker than the usual. It reminded me of Chinese Yellow Noodles (油面). Being hard and chewy, I didn't like it.
The meat was melt in your mouth but too fatty and since the broth was also greasy, it was just not appetizing!
I didn't even finish half of it (it was that bad) and we ended up eating elsewhere.
The Shoyu Tonkatsu Ramen wasn't sandy or gritty, but it was equally oily. The cha-su was also too fatty for me here as well.
The broth was not very fragrant and lacked richness. My favorite is still Hokkaido Santouka.
We didn't finish this either.

I won't be returning to Ramen Jinya anytime soon.
